It’s been a long strange day. Before I got off work this morning, Beav IM’d me and told me he had gotten tickets to go to Elektra tonight. I figured why not, I hit The Alamo Drafthouse‘s website and bought my ticket online. I got home and played some Joint OPs with Big Z and then took a nap for 2 hours. I got up, and drove to north Austin, getting to the Lakecreek Alamo about thirty minutes after leaving the house.
The movie was slow, with brief flurries of action. It was almost like they were trying to make a comic book movie that you could take a date to. But it didn’t work on as a comic book movie, nor as a date movie. I’ve never been a big fan of Jennifer Garner, having only seen her in Dude, Where’s my Car?, Catch Me if You Can, and Daredevil. She’s good looking, but to me something seems not quite right. I can’t place it, and I’m sure it’s just me. She seems to be a fairly good action actress, I’m guessing that there is a lot of action in her TV series. But I Digress… The movie was not completely horrible, which means I liked it better than Pearl Harbor, but less than the original Tomb Raider. I liked the effects used for the character Tattoo (who is not a midget, unfortunately). There were not nearly enough Ninjas. I know that sounds like a weird thing to say, but the story from the comics had like a million billion ninjas. In Elektra there are like 5. There is a scene with more Ninjas, but it was just stupid. I don’t want to spoil the movie for all the true believers out there. The weird thing is that on some weird level I kinda liked the movie. Or maybe it was that I wanted to like it. I just can’t in good conscience recommend this movie, unless you are a big Jennifer Garner fan, then maybe it is worth seeing a full price. Otherwise, wait for video.
