ONG-BAK: MUAY THAI WARRIOR
Beav called me up about 4ish and suggested we go to the Alamo Drafthouse and check out a martial arts flick. I’ve been feeling a bit better for the past day or so, but at the time, my head was killing me, and I had called Outland to see what he was up to today, and was waiting to hear from him, so I told Beav that if it was the late show, I’d go and Outland might tag along. I then did what helps me best when I feel sick, I slept. I set my alarm for around 7:45 and just as it went off, Outland called. I told him about the movie, “Ong my back, or something, its martial arts, the trailer (see it here) looks cool”.
We got to the Almao about twenty minutes before the show started, and in typical Alamo fashion, they had an old movie clip playing before the show. It was an old Jackie Chan clip.
The movie started up, and the Credits began with the Bah Ram Ewe production company, I knew that Beav’s movie instincts had hit gold again!
Ong-Bak is one of those martial arts movies where you spend most of it in awe of the feats the star does. It was much like a Jackie Chan movie with less humor and more ass-kicking. Tony Jaa is just amazing! The Muay Thai fighting style is new to me, and very cool! I can’t wait to see his next flick!
As for the movie itself, it has a decent plot, good camera work, and great action sequences! Honestly I think if you like Jackie Chan movies, you’ll like Ong-Bak. It’s similar, but different enough to be really enjoyable. It’s rated PG-13 mainly for the somewhat realistic look at the hustling and drug use of Bangkok. If you like martial arts movies at all, you’ll like it! Now if you think Bloodsport was the best martial arts movie out there, You NEED to see this to get a taste of a real martial arts movie. (Not that Bloodsport is bad, per se, but it’s very Hollywood)
Be on the lookout for this movie. Netflix has it listed but it’s not available yet and HKFlix only has the non-english version.

Wow, that looks amazing. I will definitely Netflix it when I get the chance. Glad you’re feeling better!
Oh, btw, about Constantine, I just wanted to say that just because I liked it doesn’t mean it’s any good. Please don’t blame me if you end up disappointed!
